Mattresses, baby-bath and food in latest fly-tipping incident in Normanton

THE latest pile of household rubbish to be dumped in Normanton includes two mattresses, food, drawers, clothes, toys and a baby bath and seat. Today residents awoke to find this rubbish on the pavement and spilling onto the road in Almond Street. Resident Marc Marquis, 36, said: "It wasn't here last night. I'm not having this outside my house. I have a eight-year-old and you have to walk onto the road to get past the mess." Fly-tipping in the Normanton and Pear Tree areas has been ongoing for a long time but, according to the Normanton Empowerment Team (NET), who are members of the public who voluntarily monitor the situation, it is getting worse. Gary Gee, of the Normanton Empowerment Team, said: "I have seen it over and over again. This has just been dumped outside a house – it is disgusting." Earlier in the week, the Derby Telegraph revealed a bath had been left leaning against a lamppost on the corner of Stanton Street and Vincent Street and a sofa and chairs were lined up another nearby street. After they were pictured in the Derby Telegraph, the items were collected by Derby City Council but were quickly replaced by more rubbish such as carpet, bags of nappies and even a door. More rubbish was pictured piled up on Violet Street.

Derbyshire CCC are held up by Bell-Drummond against Kent

DANIEL Bell-Drummond stood firm against the Derbyshire attack on the opening day of their LV County Championship match against Kent at Canterbury. Having lost the toss on what looked a peach of a day to bat, David Wainwright took two wickets for Derbyshire in the morning but Bell-Drummond was 72 not out at tea as Kent reached 184-4. Mark Footitt thought he had given his side the breakthrough in the ninth over when Rob Key, on 14, was caught at mid on by Tom Taylor but he was called for a no-ball. Key looked to make the most of his reprieve but he went on the attack to Wainwright's second ball and was easily stumped for 34 at 48-1. The left-armer was finding enough to encourage him in the dry surface and beat Ben Harmison's defensive push to have him caught behind by Gareth Cross for 17 at 74-2. Tony Palladino returned for an excellent spell from the Nackington Road end after lunch and was rewarded when Brendan Nash offered no shot and was bowled for 21 at 113-3. Footitt had Fabian Cowdrey lbw for 14 to make it 149-4 but Bell-Drummond and Darren Stevens (21 not out) saw Kent through to tea.

ORGANISERS of the 135th annual Derbyshire County Show are expecting to have had more than 16,000 visitors at this year's annual event in Elvaston. The sale of pre-show tickets was "very good", according to show press officer Judith Evans and indicated that 16,000 people could pass through the turnstiles. She said: "We won't know the numbers for a couple of days but the feeling is that we have well and truly smahed that figure. Some of the car parks were full by 10am which is unusual. "Everything has gone really well. We warned people to take care because of the sun and to make sure dogs were looked after." Attractions included the usual animal classes as well as displays by the Cossack riding Devil's Horsemen and scurry driving - a new cart driving sport which is taking off across the world - and the Essex Dog Display Team. The Women's Institute Centenary Baton, making its way around the country ahead of the 100th anniversary next year, made an appearance at the showground as well.

Mid Derbyshire MP Pauline Latham's joy after U-turn on skin cancer drug

A U-TURN which means people with advanced skin cancer will be able to access a "wonder drug" on the NHS has been welcomed by Mid Derbyshire MP Pauline Latham.

The Tory politician said she had campaigned for Ipilimumab to be offered as a first-line treatment for malignant melanoma.

In final draft guidance, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) said Ipilimumab, which is also known by its brand name Yervoy, should be made available to patients with advanced malignant melanoma where the tumour cannot be removed or has spread to other parts of the body.

The decision represents a U-turn by NICE after it announced earlier this year that the medication should only be used by the NHS for patients in clinical trials, pending further evidence that it can help patients live longer.

Mrs Latham said she was pleased with NICE's latest decision.

She said: "I am, of course, delighted by this news. It is a landmark decision, that will undoubtedly have a hugely positive impact on the lives of melanoma patients, allowing them to live longer, fuller lives after diagnosis."

FIVE wickets for Tony Palladino meant that Derbyshire kept a hold on Kent despite a fine century for Daniel Bell-Drummond on the opening day of their LV County Championship match at Canterbury. Palladino finished with 5-54 from 23 overs, having been kept waiting until his 13th to take a first. Having lost the toss on what looked a peach of a day to bat, Kent were held to 259-8 and Derbyshire could be pretty satisfied with that. Mark Footitt thought he had given his side the breakthrough in the ninth over when Rob Key, on 14, was caught at mid on by Tom Taylor but he was called for a no-ball. Key looked to make the most of his reprieve but he went on the attack to David Wainwright's second ball and was easily stumped for 34 at 48-1. The left-armer was finding enough to encourage him in the dry surface and beat Ben Harmison's defensive push to have him caught behind by Gareth Cross for 17 at 74-2. Footitt had Fabian Cowdrey lbw for 14 to make it 149-4 but Bell-Drummond and Darren Stevens saw Kent to 240-4 before a four-wicket burst from Palladino with the new ball. He had Stevens caught down the leg side for 45 and Cross took another catch off him to dismiss Sam Billings for nought two balls later. Bell-Drummond completed his first Championship century off 255 balls with 11 fours but was lbw to Palladino for 101 and Adam Riley went the same way second ball for four.

THE last two Kent wickets took longer to get through than Derbyshire hoped at the start of the second day of their LV County Championship match at Canterbury. But they eventually dismissed the home side for 333 in their first innings, which was still an acceptable outcome on a good batting wicket. At the start of their reply, Derbyshire were 18-0 at lunch. Kent were 259-8 at the close on day one before Robbie Joseph and Adam Ball took their ninth-wicket stand on to 59, seeing their side to a third batting point and denying Derbyshire a third bowling point before the 110-over cut-off point. David Wainwright broke through in the 112th over as Ball tried to defend on the back foot and was bowled for 30 at 306-9. Doug Bollinger came in to hit two sixes but was stumped for 19 after charging down the wicket to Marcus North, leaving Joseph 29 not out. Tony Palladino finished with 5-62 and Wainwright 3-94. Joseph gave back some of those runs with two very wide leg-side wides with the new ball as there were 14 extras in Derbyshire's 18-0 to get them going. Stephen Moore hit their only scoring shot and was four not out with Paul Borrington yet to get off the mark.

Jealous husband beat love rival to death with crowbar, court hears

A VENGEFUL husband told his wife he had a birthday present for her – then beat her lover to death with a crowbar, a court heard. Cleaner Heteny Tarsoly, 38, parked up outside the home of his love rival, David Hunter, and waited for him to finish his late shift as a city bus driver before attacking him, Derby Crown Court was told. Tarsoly, of Park Hill Drive, Derby, denies murder but has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, admitting that he attacked Mr Hunter, 54, but said he didn't intend to kill him. The defendant told police he went to his rival's house to discuss his wife and was pushed by Mr Hunter who told him: "She's my baby now." But John Lloyd-Jones QC, prosecuting, said: "This was a pre-planned, pre-meditated cold act of revenge. He murdered him purely and simply as revenge for the affair with his wife and for the break-up and sadness to follow. "The defendant said at that moment he lost control, reached back and grabbed the crowbar and brought it down on him. He could not remember after that but when he came to his senses, there was Mr Hunter lying dead on the floor." The alleged attacked happened on January 9 – the day of Tarsoly's wife Timea's birthday. The court heard he told his wife he had a present for her then drove to Mr Hunter's home in Fieldsway Drive, Breadsall Hilltop, where he lay in wait. Father-of-two Tarsoly allegedly attacked divorcee Mr Hunter as he stepped out of his car on the drive, striking him on the head with the crowbar, which was shown to the jury at Derby Crown Court. The court heard Tarsoly had bought some plastic bin bags and put his clothing into them. These were later allegedly burned on the family's barbecue and dumped. The jury was told that Hungarian Tarsoly married his wife in 2005 and came to the UK three years later. His wife joined him within a month. She met Mr Hunter because she also worked as a bus driver in Derby; they initially became friends and later lovers. Tarsoly had an accident while working at a chicken processing plant. After this his wife felt he was "not pulling his weight" as a family man with two young children. Mr Lloyd-Jones said: "She was going out to work and looking after the family. It seems to be the reason why the marriage failed. In September 2013, she told her husband she wanted a divorce. They started to sleep in separate bedrooms. "The defendant did what he could to rekindle the marriage. This didn't work and the marriage was clearly on the rocks. There is no doubt the defendant was deeply affected by the fact that the marriage was over. In texts, he expressed pain and contemplated suicide. "Mrs Tarsoly went to the county court to get basic papers for a divorce. He said he would sign them after Christmas for the sake of the children." Tarsoly began to suspect his wife was having an affair - he checked her phone records and tried to read her text messages, the court heard. The case continues.

Derbyshire CCC collapse and are in dire trouble against Kent

A DESPERATELY bad second session left Derbyshire in dire trouble on the second day of their LV County Championship match at Canterbury. After bowling Kent out for 333 in their first innings, Derbyshire fell apart after lunch and went into tea 83-8, trailing by 250 and still 101 runs from saving the follow-on. It was dreadful stuff from Derbyshire as their middle order disappeared in a burst of four wickets for three runs in 21 balls. At tea, extras was still their top scorer. Derbyshire eased safely to lunch at 18-0, though only four of those came off the bat as Robbie Joseph made a wild start with the new ball for Kent. But Stephen Moore played a loose cut to be caught behind for four off the fifth ball after lunch, then Paul Borrington was caught at third slip for eight and Wayne Madsen (7) played on to give Doug Bollinger a second wicket at 37-3. Derbyshire were in freefall when Scott Elstone was caught at slip for nought as spinner Adam Riley found extra bounce, then Alex Hughes was caught at first slip for nought off Darren Stevens, Gareth Cross was caught at short leg for nought off Riley and David Wainwright was lbw to Stevens for one. That was 56-7 and though Marcus North was holding out amid the carnage, he played on to Joseph for 18 shortly before tea at 77-8. That left Tony Palladino (18) and Tom Taylor (4) to do all they could to ease Derbyshire's embarrassment. Joseph and Adam Ball took their ninth-wicket stand on to 59 at the start of the day, seeing their side to a third batting point and denying Derbyshire a third bowling point before the 110-over cut-off point. Wainwright broke through in the 112th over as Ball tried to defend on the back foot and was bowled for 30 at 306-9. Bollinger came in to hit two sixes but was stumped for 19 after charging down the wicket to North, leaving Joseph 29 not out. Palladino finished with 5-62 and Wainwright 3-94.

TRAVELLERS have poured onto two car parks near to Derby County's iPro Stadium. More than 40 caravans, vans and trucks piled onto bays to the right of DW Sports Fitness Club and outside the city's new Velodrome building. Some moved onto the sites on Saturday and the rest arrived yesterday. Barriers were left open, enabling the travellers to set up camp. Janie Berry, director of legal and democratic services at Derby City Council, said the council would be "serving them personally with notice to leave the site" shortly after 3pm today. She added: "Travellers sometimes leave shortly after service of the notice referred to above. "If they do not, we will apply to the court for a possession hearing. "The date of the hearing is not something we can determine, and it can take several days or more to get a hearing date. "Travellers sometimes leave when the court gives them notice of the hearing date, or on the actual hearing date. If they do not, we then have to ask the court for a warrant to forcibly remove them. "We have no control over the date of eviction, which is subject to the availability of the bailiffs. "It can be as much as 2 weeks, often less but sometimes more. In all, if the travellers do not comply, the whole process can take 2 or 3 weeks. "The barriers are always left open at night to enable vehicles to exit the car park. In the day, access can be gained by pressing the button next to the barrier." Some 15 caravans were parked up in a council-owned public car park next to DW Sports Fitness Club, while another six were on parking bays for the velodrome. There were a further 20 vans and trucks spread across both car parks. Some of the vehicles had Irish number plates. A Derbyshire police spokesman said the group, who had been at Tibshelf Services on the M1 earlier on Sunday before moving south, would be monitored. It is thought the travellers had previously come from the annual Appleby horse fair, in Cumbria. The Derby Telegraph went to the scene at 8.45am. There was little sign of life, although sleeping adults could be seen through the open windows of some caravans. A couple of kids were wondering around the car park in bare feet. Rubbish bags were beginning to mount up, while washing was hung out to dry.
