DERBYSHIRE firefighters are to strike again in a continuing row over pensions and retirement ages.
The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has announced its members will walk out on Friday, December 13, and Saturday, December 14, from 6pm to 10pm.
The Government wants firefighters to wait until they are 60 – rather than the current 55 – for their full pension. The union believes 60 is too old for such physical work.
Chris Tapp, FBU secretary for Derbyshire, said: "We have seen no real movement with regards to fitness and capability.
"The discussions that have taken place have not given assurances that firefighters need to prevent them from taking strike action."
Matt Wrack, FBU general secretary, said: "Firefighters are being punished for growing older. This is a disgrace.
"Politicians often praise the work of our members. The very same people are destroying our pension rights and imposing an expensive and unworkable pension which will mean thousands facing the sack as their fitness declines. It is simply not acceptable."
