FORMER Rams captain Robbie Savage almost missed out on a flight to the World Cup - because he mistook his wife's golden locks for his own.
Savage was boarding a flight to Rio to join up with the BBC team for the competition, but arrived with his wife's passport at check-in.
His own passport was rushed to the airport and he was able to board the flight, thanking staff in a series of tweets: "Wow thank you @britishairways great staff for rushing me through as I turned up with my wife's passport. Just got mine in nick of time.
"2nd time it's happened. I'm going to have to tell my wife to get her haircut.
"The hair has to go it's so long! Mr S."
Savage then posted a picture of himself and his wife to prove his point that they had almost identical long blonde locks.
He added that he would be flying 25,000 miles, visiting five cities and watching the best football on the globe during his stint at the World Cup, and he could not resist a dig at England, he said: "Luckily I'm not following England. I'd have been going home after the group stage."
Savage played for the Rams between 2008-11, appearing 124 times and scoring 7 times for the club, before retiring from the game in 2011 and taking to TV screens and the radio to cover the game.
