Derby jobseeker figures fall below 5,000 for first time in six years

THE number of people looking for work in Derby has fallen below the 5,000 mark for the first time in six years. According to the latest monthly figures released by the Office for National Statistics this morning, Derby's dole queue went down last month from 5,137 to 4,914, a fall of 223, or 4.3%. The last time the job-seeker figure was this low was October, 2008, when it stood at 4,593. And in the rest of the county, the number of people claiming jobseeker's allowance fell in May fell below the 10,000 mark for the first time since September, 2008. Last month it fell from 10,096 to 9,613, a drop of 483, or 4.8%. It means that over the past 12 months alone the number of job-seekers in Derby has fallen by 2,368. And in the rest of Derbyshire, over the past year the number of claimants has declined by 4,290.
