DERBYSHIRE clinched their first victory of the season with a composed display on the final day of their LV County Championship match against Leicestershire. After quickly wrapping up the Leicestershire innings, they were set 186 to win with plenty of time to do it and scored the winning runs with nine wickets in hand in 61.5 overs shortly after tea. An opening stand of 121 broke any remaining heart Leicestershire had for the battle. Stephen Moore scored 76 and Paul Borrington an unbeaten 86. Derbyshire took a grip on the contest the previous day but still could not allow the home side to tag on many more runs for their last wicket at the start of day four. They had a new ball available after only one over and, in the third over with it, Alex Wyatt gloved an attempted pull at a Mark Footitt ball to second slip and was gone for 14 to leave his side 210 all out. They added 10 more runs to their overnight total. Footitt had figures of 3-57 to give him a return of 9-122 for the match. It was also important that Derbyshire got through the first period of play with no alarms and though one edge from Borrington's bat fell just short of the slips, they managed that. Moore was caught at deep midwicket for 76 but Borrington and Wayne Madsen (22 not out) saw Derbyshire to the conclusion and a victory that will be a huge relief for all at the club.
