COUNCIL bosses have decided to buy in £1,000 worth of poppy plants to replace the floral WW1 tribute they accidentally cut to pieces. Derbyshire Dales District Council has aborted its plan to re-sow a patch of land in Ashbourne Cemetery that had been set aside to burst into colour around the time of the town's First World War commemorations next month because the seeds will take too long to germinate. The authority, which blames a communication breakdown for accidentally sending a worker with a strimmer to mow the seedlings, has instead ordered 1,000 mature poppy plants which they will now have to spend a day planting next week. derbyshiredales 12:26pm via Hootsuite @DerbyTelegraph We've today ordered 1,000 poppy plants to ensure a July flowering display in #Ashbourne cemetery #sincereapologies
