POLICE cordoned off part of Derby city centre this morning after a man suffered a "quite serious" head injury during an assault.
Scenes-of-crime officers were carrying out a forensic investigation in Friar Gate this morning.
A police spokeswoman said the assault happened at 2.30am today.
She said: "A male was assaulted. There is no mention of weapons.
"We don't have details of any offenders yet."
The spokeswoman said the officers blocked off an area where blood was found but confirmed the cordon had now been lifted.
