THE Mayor of Derby stopped at the Arboretum Café for a spot of tea to celebrate its fourth anniversary today.
Councillor Shiraz Khan was joined by members of Myaware – formerly the Myasthenia Gravis Association - who were holding a charity tea party.
It was part of a family fun day being held at the park, which has attracted scores of people.
The café is a hub for the Normanton community and particularly the deaf as the staff there can sign.
Project manager Niki Johnson, who is deaf, said: "A lot of deaf people miss everyday information.
"We make sure we share that information with people."
Mr Khan said: "I grew up on Arboretum Street and used to visit the park a lot.
"It's nice to see it being used so readily now and by so many people.
"The café is a central part of that."
At the event today were bouncy castles, circus and magic training for children, and face painting.
There was also a chance for children and their families to meet unusual animal like a bosk monitor lizard, bearded dragon and a python.
