A LOCAL soldier has played a key part in preparations for the UK section of the Tour de France, due to arrive in Derbyshire tomorrow.
Lance Corporal Iain Carr, 25, has been cycling the section of the route through Yorkshire to assist in the preparations for the prestigious event. He was one of a 70-strong Armed Forces "peloton", (head of the race) who cycled from the historic Harewood House on the outskirts of Leeds to the centre of Sheffield.
Former John Port School pupil Iain, a military plant operator mechanic, is based at 21 Engineer Regiment in Ripon, North Yorkshire. He has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
