THE Mayor of Wirksworth said tonight "the whole town of Wirksworth will be feeling the loss" of a 15-year-old boy who has died under mysterious circumstances.

Councillor Alison Clamp said she sent her "heartfelt condolences" to the family of the teenager, who died on Thursday.

A police spokesman said emergency services were called to the boy's house, in Canterbury Terrace, at 9.15am on Thursday, where he was found in a critical condition.

He said: "A 15-year-old boy has died after being found in a critical condition at his home.

"Police and ambulance crews were called to Canterbury Terrace, Wirksworth, at 9.15am on Thursday.

"He was taken to Royal Derby Hospital where he later died.

"The cause of death is not known and a file has been referred to the coroner."

He also said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the teen's death.

The boy was last night named locally and tributes were being paid on his Facebook site.

But the Telegraph is withholding his name until it has been officially released by the police.

Mrs Clamp, the Mayor of Wirksworth, said: "It sounds like a horrendous ordeal for anyone to go through.

"As a mother myself my heartfelt condolences go out to the family of the boy at what must be the most awful time for them.

"I want to extend my sincere sympathies to them and I am sure all of Wirksworth will share in their loss."

Last night in Wirksworth Market Place, a man, who did not wish to be named, said he had heard about the death on Thursday afternoon.

He said: "I did not know the lad myself but someone I know who knows his family tell me he was a lovely boy who was very popular.

"It is a tragic situation and I feel for his family.

"I cannot imagine what they are going through."

Tributes were also last night amassing on Facebook to the teenager.

One poster left a message that read: "RIP mate, you will be missed."

Another Facebook user said: "He never failed to make us smile."

And a third friend left a message that said: "Missing you already mate."
