POLICE are encouraging home owners to keep their property secure following a number of burglaries over the weekend.
Calls were received from Allestree, Alvaston and Long Eaton between Friday and today where break-ins had happened.
In Long Eaton, one homeowner had the car keys taken from inside his home and the car taken from the drive.
Safer neighbourhood policing teams will be heading out on patrols in each area and are encouraging homeowners to increase their security to help protect their property from being targeted by thieves.
Inspector Pat Howitt, who manages community safety, said:" With this warm weather spell, people obviously fall into a relaxed state when leaving doors and windows open for ventilation.
"Keep in mind, when out and about in your garde,n that an open door or window equals easy pickings for an opportunist thief, as can be seen by the incidents from the weekend.
"We would also encourage holiday goers to double-check their home and outbuilding security before they leave and if possible ask neighbours or a friend to check in on the house where possible."
Residents are also being advised to check that any outbuildings, sheds and garages are properly secure and that valuable items are kept out of view from passers-by.
