DERBYSHIRE suffered a 101-run defeat and a worrying injury to Tom Taylor in their Royal London One-Day Cup match at the 3aaa County Ground.

The Falcons were bowled out for 199, with Taylor unable to bat, after Lancashire won the toss and made 300-8 in their 50 overs. Tony Palladino took five wickets in a one-day match for the first time in his career.

They lost teenage seamer Taylor in the 13th over as he turned his ankle trying to stop a shot from Karl Brown off his own bowling. He had to be helped off the field and the initial diagnosis was not good.

The 19-year-old will be sent for a scan to assess the extent of the damage tomorrow.

Taylor bowled well in the first 10 overs of the power play as they held Lancashire to 49-1, with Mark Footitt having Usman Khawaja, the former Derbyshire batsman, caught behind for 31 at 46-1 in the ninth.

Ashwell Prince took a blow to the back of the hand off Taylor early on but went on to 57 off 69 balls with five fours when he tried to reverse paddle a ball from David Wainwright and was bowled at 110-2 in the 24th over.

Brown and Paul Horton looked to step up the scoring rate but Brown bottom edged a pull at Tony Palladino through to wicketkeeper Gareth Cross for 59 and Horton was caught at point off Palladino for 19 at 170-4 in the 34th.

Alex Davies (51) and Steven Croft (53) added 109 in 14 overs but fell in successive balls to Palladino to make it 279-6 in the 48th.

Palladino had his fifth wicket in the final over as Wayne White was caught at deep square leg for 11. The bowler finished with 5-49, then Kyle Hogg was run out coming back for a second run off the final ball.

Derbyshire started poorly in their reply against tight Lancashire bowling, with Wes Durston lbw to Tom Bailey for two in the third over and Scott Elstone caught behind for the same score, driving loosely at Bailey at 28-2 in the seventh.

Billy Godleman moved on to 23 before he was caught behind cutting at Jordan Clark at 66-3 and Marcus North was caught off a looping top-edged pull at White for eight at 93-4.

The biggest blow came when Wayne Madsen, a scorer of centuries in his first two innings in this competition, was caught at deep midwicket for 49 at 101-5 in the 21st.

Though Alex Hughes (47) tried to spark a recovery, Derbyshire had too much ground to make up and they lost their ninth – and final – wicket in the 41st over. White took 4-33 and Bailey 3-41.
