CRICKET teams around Derbyshire have observed a poignant minute's silence to remember murdered medic Neil Dalton.
The 22-year-old, described as a "brilliant trainee doctor" was stabbed to death in Malaysia, along with fellow medical student, Aidan Brunger.
Neil, of Ambergate, played for Belper Amateurs Cricket Club who held an emotional minute's silence today ahead of their game with Alfreton Cricket Club.
Both teams wore black armbands.
All clubs in the Derbyshire County Cricket League were asked to hold a minute's silence by the organisers.
Belper Amateurs secretary Pip Nightingale said several players at the club had played cricket with Neil since the age of 14 and were close to him.
He said: "The cricket community is a very close knit community.
"Players swap teams and play at different levels through the age ranges together.
"To say it's just impacted Belper Amateurs would be wrong, it's impacted the whole of the local cricket community."
Mr Nightingale said the club were asked if it wanted to call the home fixture off but Neil "wouldn't have wanted that" and neither did his family.
He described Neil as a "gentleman and a scholar" and added that he was "just as good at football as he was at cricket".
Neil represented the club from the age of 14, playing more than 100 times, and opening the batting at every level.
Prior to that, he played for Ambergate.
Neil and Aidan were both on six-week placements as part of their studies. They died in the early hours of Wednesday.
Four men have been charged with the murders and, according to police in Borneo, have admitted they were responsible for the killings.
