A HOUSEHOLDER living on a street where there were two accidents within a hundred yards of each other on the same day has called for speed humps to be reinstated.
Lisa Morris was speaking after the accidents happened on a troubled bend in Boulton Lane, where there had been speed humps for three years until 2003.
They were removed because drivers claimed they were damaging cars.
Miss Morris said smashes had been happening regularly on the sharp bend, where a cyclist was killed in 2009.
Councillor Alison Martin, who represents Boulton ward, vowed the council would "work with residents to address the problem".
The two crashes happened on Wednesday at 7.40am and 1.40pm.
The first saw a car plough through a wall and into a house at the junction of Boulton Lane and Oak Drive.
The front door of the house was damaged, with large pieces of the garden wall flung several feet into the property.
A man was treated at the scene and taken to the Royal Derby Hospital with minor injuries.
The second crash involved a collision between a taxi and a Vauxhall Astra 100 yards away in Boulton Lane.
An 80-year-old woman was taken to Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham, with serious injuries.
Seven other people from both vehicles were also taken to hospital with "non life-threatening injuries".
Miss Morris said one problem with the bend was the growing amount of traffic using it.
She said: "I think the council should put the speed humps back.
"Three months ago a vehicle crashed into a phone box on the same bend and went into a garden fence behind.
"Since I moved in, five years ago, there have been seven accidents I'm aware of but I imagine there have been more."
Mrs Martin said: "Councillors have been aware of road safety concerns in this area and have been meeting and working with local residents to try and find a solution."
In January, David Gartside, head of traffic and transportation at the city council, said two collisions were reported along the stretch in the three years the humps were in place. In the three years after they were removed, eight crashes took place.
