GIANFRANCO Zola has resigned as head coach of Watford.
The Hornets have lost their last five home games and have not won in the league since early October.
They are currently 13th in the Championship, eight points adrift of the top six. They were beaten 1-0 by struggling Sheffield Wednesday at Vicarage Road on Saturday.
In a statement on the club's website, 47-year-old Zola said: "I feel that it is in the best interests of the team that somebody new is given the chance to bring the success we have hoped for.
"It has been a privilege and a pleasure to serve this club."
Watford reached the play-off final last season but were beaten by Crystal Palace at Wembley.
