A gang of raiders targeted the Co-op in Spondon last night and stole cash and assaulted a person.
The incident happened at 8.50pm on Sitwell Street and one person was injured.
A spokesman for Derbyshire police said it was not an armed robbery and that four or five people were involved. He added that nobody has been arrested.
Spondon residents have taken to social media to express their shock of reports of police officers in the area this morning and areas taped-off, although a spokesman for the force could not confirm this.
