You, our readers, have been telling us why you like the new look Derby Telegraph. Chris Mallett reports.
IT'S been a staple of his reading for more than four decades and, for Alan Shirtcliffe, the latest version of the Derby Telegraph is a hit.
As he looked at the revamped pages today, Mr Shirtcliffe, of Alvaston, said he was pleased to see there was a "bigger read" and that his wife would enjoy the new weekend supplement.
The new Derby Telegraph has been designed to be more accessible and to reflect our readers' views and what they want to read.
We also want the paper to be more female and family-friendly.
We have boosted our lifestyle offering while, at the same time, vowing to continue breaking the biggest news stories in Derby and Derbyshire.
Today's edition is worth more than the 55p it costs to buy thanks to Tesco and Ed's Easy Diner, who are giving readers two great offers.
You can pick up a free pint of milk from Tesco Metro in St Peter's Street, Derby, and you can also enjoy 20% off the bill at the diner.
Mr Shirtcliffe, of Metcalfe Close, Alvaston, said: "There's a bigger read for a Saturday and if you take advantage of the coupon you're saving yourself more than the 10p extra it's costing."
The big Rams fan, who was excited about reading today's supplement celebrating the life of Brian Clough, said he would be getting his milk – walking just a few metres from where he bought his paper in East Street.
Mr Shirtcliffe said his wife Sharon would enjoy our new Weekend supplement, featuring a food and drink section, homes and gardens, shops and style, health, fitness, beauty, days out, hobbies, a seven-day TV guide, Bygones, and puzzles.
He said: "I read every page anyway so I'll get more out of it and I think my wife will enjoy the fashion.
"We always get it because we want to keep up with what's happening in the area."
Carole Carter, 71, of Rothbury Place, Breadsall Hilltop, moved from Hampshire four-and-a-half years ago and said she had been immediately impressed by the Derby Telegraph.
She said the revamp looked "nice and bright" and that there was plenty in it so she was looking forward to reading it cover to cover.
She said: "I think the Weekend supplement looks like a good read. It's got gardening in, which is something I enjoy.
"I've only got a little garden now but it's something I try to do a lot with."
Luke Warren, 45, of Glengarry Way, Sinfin, said he thought the revamp made the paper "look a lot better".
He said: "I think it's a lot more colourful.
"The Weekend supplement will appeal to women but it's not just women. I think men will read it too."
Carl Wells, 79, of Allestree Lane, rang the Derby Telegraph offices to say how much he enjoyed the new look paper.
He said: "I think it is fantastic.
"It has a lovely, clean, layout that brings it right into the 21st century.
"I was an illustrator at Rolls-Royce when I started there, so I have an eye for design, albeit it an ancient one, and I think it looks superb.
"The restaurant review looks great and the Clough memorabilia has clearly had a huge amount of work put into it.
"It is a new era for the paper."
Also a fan of today's relaunch was Derby North MP Chris Williamson who said it had a "nice modern feel to it".
Mr Williamson said: "The local paper in Derby is considerably better than what's on offer from most of the national papers and with the new Weekend supplement there's less need to buy a national newspaper at the weekend.
"It's also cheaper than buying a national at the weekend, which you can be forking out £2."
John Forkin, managing director of Marketing Derby, which promotes the city, tweeted: "Well impressed with the new look Derby Telegraph – took hour to read!"
On Tuesdays, we will have a 12-page Celebrations section featuring all your special occasions, happy events and proud moments. And homes for sale and to rent will both be featured in a new special Homes supplement on Thursdays.
The Derby Telegraph will cost 45p on weekdays and 55p on Saturdays.
The free milk offer is valid only on Saturday, September 20.
