A COMIC fan says that a convention held in Derby this weekend was good-natured despite calls made to police about visitors having "weapons".
The Derby Telegraph previously reported how Derbyshire police had received calls from alarmed residents, only to attend the scene and find they were fakes.
The "weapons" were all part of costumes from fans attending J-Con, the East Midland's largest Anime and Manga convention, which was held at Pride Park yesterday and Friday.
Anime is Japanese animated film and Manga is the name for Japanese comics, on which the movies are often based.
A comic fan from Borrowash was among those at the convention which attracted about 800 people over the two days - and some pretty wacky costumes.
He said that the original story on the event caused some excitement among fans.
The man, who does not wish to be named, said: "It attracted over 800 people from Derby and the rest of the country for two days of geek-based fun with stands selling everything from comic books and manga, through computer games and DVD's to edible oddities from Japan.
"The event was very good-natured and a lot of fun was had by all involved."
Yesterday, a police spokesman said there had been two "major incidents" that she was aware of but that there could have been more.
She said: "They've been running around with all sorts of replica weapons.
"We've obviously investigated but, when we've found the people involved, the weapons turned out to be fake - just a bit of fun.
"From a distance though, they didn't look like fun."
She said officers had spoken with those involved and that no further action would be taken.
