POLICE have increased their patrols in Spondon after an increase in burglaries.
Plain-clothed and uniformed officers have spent extra time in the area speaking to residents to ensure their properties are safe.
The advice includes making sure all windows and doors and locked before going to bed and keeping house keys away from windows.
Sheds and garages should have outdoor lighting, ideally a CCTV system and a good quality lock.
Safer Spondon, run by local residents, offers a wide range of security items, including window and door alarms at a small cost.
It also sells SmartWater which can be used to security mark property.
The police are also running a free e-mail service called Derbyshire Alert, which keeps residents up to date with any criminal activity happening in your area.
