Derby council workers' strike action planned for Tuesday has been suspended, while new proposals from employers are considered.
The move has been confirmed by all three of the main local government unions, Unison, GMB and Unite.
Had the national strike gone ahead it was set to affect things like bin collections and library opening times.
A statement from the unions said: "We have today decided to suspend strike action planned for October 14 and consult our members on new proposals put forward by the Local Government Association as the best achievable by negotiation."
Strike action planned by NHS workers for Monday is still set to go ahead.
