ROADS in the Castle Donington area are expected to become increasingly busy over the next few days as up to 100,000 people arrive for this year's Download Festival.
Camping on the Donington Park site opens today at midday, but the bulk of festival-goers are expected to arrive tomorrow and Friday.
The acts take to the stage from noon on Friday.
The main peaks in traffic are also expected to be onSunday evening and Monday morning when the event finishes.
All routes to the festival will be signposted, but people should plan their journey in advance and check the latest travel conditions before they set out.
A North West Leicestershire District Council spokesman said: "Local people should take into account that there may be a one-way system in place between 8pm and 2am on Sunday and from 9am to 4pm on Monday.
"The traffic light junction outside the main entrance to Donington Park will be busy with slow moving traffic much of the time."
It is also suggested that people planning to fly from East Midlands Airport should allow more time to get there.
Officers from the council will also be monitoring noise levels throughout the event, with a direct link between the on-stage sound booths and monitoring stations around the area in Castle Donington and Wilson.
If the noise gets too loud, a message is sent directly to the sound technicians to turn down the volume, or to reduce the levels of certain frequencies, such as the bass.
Officers have enforcement powers if noise advice is ignored.
Noise levels will be at their highest between 9pm and 11pm each day.
Leicestershire police are also gearing up for the event. Last year, there were 294 reported crimes, including 190 thefts from tents, 59 thefts involving people and 14 from vehicles.
Det Con Kev Walker said; "We don't want people to have their stuff stolen, so our message is really simple – leave all your valuables at home and not in your tent, or use the onsite security lockers.
"We're also urging those people who arrive by car not to leave their belongings on display or their vehicle unlocked."
Headliners at the 11th Download Festival are Avenged Sevenfold on Friday, Linkin Park on Saturday and Aerosmith on Sunday.
Also putting in an appearance for the first time since 1982, when the venue hosted Monsters of Rock, are British rockers Status Quo.
Festival promoter Andy Copping said: "Everything has been going really well. There's all the usual stresses and strains as you would expect with an event of this size. All we need now is good weather.
"Everything is going to be bigger and better than ever and we just want people to enjoy themselves."
