DERBY'S Assembly Rooms car park will re-open on Monday at 10am.
This follows its closure due to a dramatic fire on March 14 caused by over-heated machinery in an air conditioning unit.
At the height of the blaze, 75 firefighters and 16 engines were at the scene as flames 40ft high leapt into the skies.
A council spokeswoman said the car park would be fully re-opened on Monday but that its lift wasn't working.
She said: "The lift remains out of service due to fire and water damage and will be inaccessible to wheelchair and pushchair users.
"Derby City Council is working hard to restore the lift and will inform users once it is back in service. The ground floor has been reserved for blue badge holders and additional parking spaces will be available on Full Street."
Councillor Asaf Afzal, cabinet member for neighbourhoods and Streetpride, said: "We are delighted to announce that the Assembly Rooms car park will be up and running from Monday.
"It brings me great joy that businesses in the Cathedral Quarter will, once again, benefit from the increased footfall resulting from the re-opening of the Assembly Rooms car park.
"We would like to thank local businesses and motorists for their patience and understanding during the essential repair works.
"While the car park has been closed, we have taken the opportunity to undertake some essential maintenance work. The car park has been thoroughly cleaned and equipment has been repaired and updated.
"We have also created additional parking bays on Full Street, which will provide convenient parking particularly for those people unable to use the car park while the lift remains out of service."
Martin Langsdale, Chair of the Cathedral Quarter Management Group, added: "The closure of the Assembly Rooms and its car park has been of great concern to all businesses in the area and has had an impact on trading from businesses in the immediate vicinity.
"We are glad that the car park will now be reopened and await further updates on the future of the Assembly Rooms."
The air-conditioning unit had been in the plant room on top of the car park which contained the utilities for the site, including the Assembly Rooms itself.
In April, the council announced that the Assembly Rooms itself would be shut for at least 18 months.
It is considering whether to refurbish or replace the building.
